By default, Windows will use a Dynamic IP to identify your PC (game server) on your LAN. Your router needs to forward certain ports (as shown in my guide) to your server so it will need a Static IP unless you have a router that supports "manual allocation" (read your user manual).
To find your current IP, clickng on "Start" and "Run..." type "cmd" and press return. Now type "ipconfig /all" this will print a few lines - leave the command window open.
To set your IP to a static one:
- Click on Start, Control Panel, Network Connections.
- Right click on "Local Area Connection" and click on Properties.
- Click once on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and then click on Properties.
- Now click on the "Use the following IP address" option.
- Fill in all of the fields (including the DNS servers) using the details displayed in the command prompt window.
- Click OK.
- Click OK again.
- Restart your computer.
Your PC will now always use the same IP address and your game server should always be visible to the outside world.
